Did U Know?

Antarctica is Disappearing

Over a 35-day period from January 31 to March 7, 2002, Antarctica's Larsen B ice shelf lost a total of about 1,255 square miles (3,250 square kilometers), one of the largest shelf retreats ever recorded. This image, captured by NASA's MODIS satellite sensor on February 23, shows the shelf mid-disintegration, spewing a cloud of icebergs adrift in the Weddell Sea. In December 2007, a team of National Geographic explorers will begin a five-week expedition across the continent's Larsen ice shelf to study how global warming is changing the topography of Antarctica.

A stark white lobe of a glacier advances across Antarctica's dry valleys region, so called because of its scarcity of snow. Earth's fifth-largest continent contains more than two-thirds of the world's fresh water in the form of ice, yet some areas receive less than two inches (five centimeters) of precipitation a year.

Global warming is forcing ice shelves to calve, producing icebergs like this monolith jutting into the waters of the Antarctic Peninsula. National Geographic's Larsen Ice Shelf Expedition team will examine calving shelves and the bergs they spawn, determining how shelves fragment and how diminishing ice mass affects the world's oceans and climate.

A leopard seal plunges through Antarctic waters. Swift and stealthy, adult leopard seals tend to be solitary creatures, hunting alone at the fringes of pack ice. Finding a mate can be challenging given their isolation, but seals attract one another by singing—females to announce their readiness to a mate, males to serenade potential mates.

Icebergs drift across Antarctica's Neumeyer Channel. The Larsen Ice Shelf Expedition team predicts melting Antarctic shelves and bergs will raise sea levels around the world, flooding hundreds of thousands of square miles and displacing tens of millions of people. The team will collect evidence from their expedition to better understand how global warming is changing the continent and how we can prepare ourselves for its effects.

NAIL IN THE FENCE

Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence..
(Most importantly the last sentence)

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper.

His Father gave him a bag of nails

and told him that every time he lost his

temper, he must hammer a nail into the back

of the fence.

The first day the boy had

driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next

few weeks, as he learned to control his

anger, the number of nails hammered daily

gradually dwindled down. He discovered

it was easier to hold his temper than to

drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the ! day came when the boy didn't

lose his temper at all. He told his father

about it and the father suggested that the

boy now pull out one nail for each day that he

was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally

able to tell his father that all the nails

were gone. The father took his son by the

hand and led him to the fence He said, "You

have done well, my son, but look at the

holes in the fence. The fence will never be

the same. When you say things in anger,

they leave a scar just like this one. You can put

a knife in a man and draw it out.

It won't matter how many times you say "I'm

sorry", the wound is still there. A verbal

wound is as bad as a physical one.

Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They

make you smile and encourage you to succeed.

They lend an ear, they share words of praise

and they always want to open their hearts to us."

YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONORED!

Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole.

2009 Edo Competition Bentley Speed GT

edo competition modifies the Bentley Continental GT

It was paramount for edo competition to turn the Bentley Continental into the world’s fastest GT. Consequentially, particular attention was paid to the engine modifications and all associated components.

In factory trim the Bentley reaches a top speed of 326 km/h (203 mph) with 610 horsepower. Since this provided a good starting point for the edo speed GT, the power output of the 6.0-liter W12 engine was increased to 680 horsepower, making edo competition’s offering the most powerful GT in the world. The already massive torque output of 750 Nm (553 ft-lb) rises to 880 Nm (649 ft-lb) at 2,500 rpm. As a result the edo speed GT reaches a top speed in excess of 340 km/h (211 mph) and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a phenomenal 4.2 seconds!

Getting this power to the ground are 20 in. racing wheels shod with Sport Contact V-Max tires specially developed by Continental for the edo speed GT. The wheels can be painted according to the customers’ wishes.

edo competition has developed a new high-performance exhaust system for the speed GT which – along with the ECU recalibration – is responsible for the increased output. The high-flow exhaust is made from stainless steel and produces a wonderfully deep and sonorous sound, ensuring the aural experience is given appropriate attention. A new butterfly valve system (with an optional remote control) provides two different settings for the volume level. The development work for the cat-back exhaust system was performed on a dynamometer.

The lowered suspension draws attention to the sporty appearance. The suspension can be adjusted individually thanks to the electronic air suspension control module. The front and rear of the vehicle can be lowered by a maximum of 35 millimeters. As an additional benefit the lowered suspension improves the handling capabilities.

Beautiful wrapper: Customers with a desire for guaranteed exclusivity can opt for a custom exterior color scheme. This is realized using a special foil available in any desired color.

Largest Helicopter in the World

The largest helicopter ever built was a massive aircraft developed in the Soviet Union during the 1960s called the Mil V-12. The V-12 was a rather unusual test vehicle that featured two rotors mounted side by side at the ends of a large wing. Each rotor had a diameter of nearly 115 ft (35 m). The helicopter was so enormous that the distance from the edge of one rotor disk to the other was almost 220 ft (67 m), even wider across than the wingspan of a Boeing 747!
Even more remarkable was the lifting capacity of this powerful craft. The V-12 had a maximum takeoff weight of 231,485 lb (105,000 kg), nearly twice that of the second largest helicopter, and set a record in 1969 for carrying a payload of 88,635 lb (40,205 kg). So massive was the V-12 that this payload weight alone is greater than the maximum takeoff weight of the third biggest helicopter in the world! These impressive figures have earned the V-12 the record as the world's largest helicopter according to the FAI and the Guinness Book of World Records.

Only two V-12 prototypes were built, yet despite its amazing size and lifting power, the design was considered a failure by its manufacturer and Soviet authorities. The V-12 was simply too big and difficult to maneuver to be a practical machine. A production model would have been called the Mi-12, but these plans were cancelled following evaluation of the two test vehicles. One of the V-12 prototypes was retired to the Russian Air Force Museum in Monino while the second is reportedly housed at the Mil factory near Moscow.

2009 Wheelsandmore Mustang Shelby GT500 Eleanor

ELEANOR: Gone in 60 seconds and a lifetime legend

Customizing exclusive and exotic cars is one of the specialities from german tuner and wheel-manufactur Wheelsandmore, located in Baesweiler near Aachen.

It seems that the crew added their current wheel 6Sporz perfectly to the legendary Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

In fact, it´s a totally customized Ford Mustang S-Code Fastback, built in 1967, having a 5,7L Ford V8-engine with a Shelby GT 500 Bodykit.

To retain most of the 350 horsepower, Wheelsandmore optimized the weight of their forged 20“ rims by using FEM-analysis and took stainless steel outside rims of the highest quality.
By finishing those high-end-wheels with titanium screws the weight depends about 24 lbs .
On the front axle they took a 9,0x20“ with 235/30/20 and on the rear axle 10,5x20 with 275/30/20 Pirelli PZero Nero.

Outside the car should look similar to the original Eleanor look within the original lacquering.

Inside the car modern and classic parts should be combinated and the professionals did well by designing single frame parts.

All seats were covered with new leather and the ceiling was coated with high class Alcantara
The dashfront is made of a few cnc drilled aluminium plates and fits perfectly to the the new leather covered dashboard, which is equipped with new Autometer car instruments and the interieur is completed with a massive Tilton pedal set.

The suspension is a special mixture with Koni shock absorbers and a special spring set at the front axle.

2009 Sector111 Lotus Exige

The Sector111 Exige takes Colin Chapman’s design philosophy of “Performance through lightweight” to the next level. Sector111 has turned its 2006 Lotus Exige into a hardcore, track-ready supercar capable of world-class performance.

This car, which was featured on SPEED channel’s Supercars Exposed, employs many parts seen on some of the world’s best race cars as well as some of Sector111’s own “tasty bits.” Every part on the Sector111 Exige is focused and purpose built to the highest standards.

The Sector111 Exige in more detail:

Engine

The Sector111 Exige started life with a normally aspirated 1.8 liter Toyota 2ZZ inline-4 engine producing 189 hp. The addition of Sector111’s Katana roots hybrid type supercharger increased the high-revving engine’s power to 240+ hp.

Improving engine flow is a Larini Sport 8 inch exhaust system. This hand-crafted, lightweight system saves almost 10 pounds over the stock exhaust while giving the car a great sophisticated, tuned sound.

Safety Features

Occupant safety is a major highlight of the Sector111 Exige. A ReVerie XC carbon fiber seat and Schroth Profi II 6-point racing harness keep occupants firmly and safely in place with the help of Sector111’s sys.6.pack (a 6-point-harness ready device that also reinforces both seats).

Aerodynamics

The Sector111 Exige has a comprehensive aerodynamic package that keeps the lightened supercar planted on the road or track. A ReVerie carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber undertray and 5-element carbon fiber rear diffuser make the Sector111 Exige a truly flat-bottom car. The aero kit also includes ReVerie carbon fiber side skirts and carbon fiber arch louvers. A ReVerie 1650mm rear wing spans the entire width of the car and keeps the rear wheels glued to the ground.

Body

A redesigned carbon fiber roof with integrated air scoop, carbon fiber rear hatch, carbon fiber access panels and ReVerie carbon fiber side scoops all do their part in keeping the Sector111 Exige’s overall weight down to a trim 1954 lbs wet.

Wheels and Tires

This Exige runs on Sector111 designed stellaCORSE lightweight forged wheels (16x7 fronts, 17x8 rears). Wrapped around the beautiful stellaCORSE wheels are Toyo Proxes R888 high-performance R-compound tires.

Brakes

The Sector111 Exige’s combination of a lightweight body and huge brakes make it one of the most powerful braking cars on the road. The car’s AP Racing Big Brake Kit issues serious stopping force from its race engineered 2-piece rotors.

Suspension

A Nitron Exige GT3 triple adjustable suspension system offers great on and off track performance. Low & high speed compression and rebound levels can be adjusted to insure the Sector111 Exige’s ride is uncompromised on the track or in the canyons.

2009 Lamborghini Murcielago LP 650-4 Roadster

Lamborghini releases first images of the Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster

Automobili Lamborghini has released the first photographs of a limited edition Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster. The Roadster version of the Murciélago will offer an uprated 6.5 litre V12 engine that produces 650 hp (478 kW) along with permanent four-wheel drive: hence the model’s LP 650-4 moniker. With 660 Nm of torque, top performance is at 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 3.4 seconds. The top speed is around 330 Km/h (205mph).

The special edition model will be produced in a limited volume (50 units only), with a Grigio Telesto exterior that combines grey bodywork with a special bright orange Arancio LP 650-4 featured on the front spoiler and sills. The LP 650-4 logo applied to the car’s exterior is recognition of the car’s increased power. The car features orange brake calipers and a transparent V12-engine cover, which shows off the V12 engine behind the driver.

Interior features echo the car's striking grey-and-orange exterior: besides the orange touches, there is an asymmetric dash design, with black Alcantara Nera on the driver's side, including door panel and central tunnel, and black leather Nero Perseus on the passenger's side.

The increased power of the Murciélago engine, from 640 to 650 hp, will be unique to the Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster: it demonstrates even further the developments that Lamborghini is able to offer from a current engine, and creates the exclusive characteristic of the Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster.

2009 Lamborghini Insecta Concept Design

The project represents a personal vision of a Lamborghini 2 seater super sports car.

The inspiration comes from nature, and especially the insect world. I began by studying the different types of exoskeletons or armor that certain insects have.

I sought to apply these type of organic forms and translate them into the style of the brand so that when you see the car, you have no doubt that it is a Lamborghini. This type of armored appearance is especially visible in the rear and top views.

The dimensions of the car are: 4300 mm length (same as the Gallardo), 1000 mm height and 2000 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2650 mm. The body is carbonfiber and the car can use the same engine as the Gallardo.

The idea was to create a very extreme race oriented supercar with a style that introduces new soft and organic lines and integrates them into the geometrical style of Lamborghini.
